ELLEN’S RUN #1 FUNDRAISING TEAM FOR '20, '21, '22:

The Shocking Pinks

Team Captain: Sheryl Heather
Jeannie Sullivan-Curran, Maureen Drew, Erin Finley, Claudia Ferrara, Dottie Macaluso

“The Shocking Pinks” have been the top Ellen’s Run fundraising team for the past 3 years. According to Team Captain Sheryl Heather, “Two of my best friends who both have great insurance went through successful breast cancer surgery and treatment due to early detection. It brought home the importance of the Ellen Hermanson Breast Center which can help ensure the same positive outcome for anyone, regardless of their ability to pay. My volunteering is a way to show gratitude that my friends were cured by paying it forward to help others less fortunate.”

Sheryl is a resident of Westhampton Beach and Vice President at Chaikin Ultimate Pools. She recruited a group of her close friends, including Maureen Drew of Sag Harbor who is retired from Southampton Police Department; Claudia Ferrara, a sales executive with Martin Scott Wines; Erin Finley, owner of Sydney’s Taylor Made Cuisine in Westhampton Beach; Dottie Macaluso, a retired teacher; and Jeannie Sullivan Curran, a real estate agent with The Corcoran Group.

The group actively solicits donations through social media, business contacts, friends and family. They do a 5K walk in Westhampton Beach on the day of Ellen’s Run, culminating with brunch at Sydney’s on Mill Road. “Mimosas at the end of the trail are a great incentive for us to finish,” said Heather. “Ellen’s Run added the virtual run/walk option during Covid, and that can make for a relaxing, fun event that any individual or group can replicate anywhere, anytime that’s convenient.”

The team already has two additional members for 2023, and are welcoming anyone interested in participating. “Our wish is to inspire other teams to form, enjoy a fun few hours and help The Ellen Hermanson Foundation’s work continue to expand,” Heather concluded. “We’d love to lose our top team status to another group this year, because it would mean that much more money going to a great cause.”
