Chaloner told Hamptons.com on the lawn leading to the air conditioned tents that house the gala, where socialites preened for admiring cameras. Cancer mortality, incidence, and prevalence in South Fork residents are disproportionately high compared to New York State and the nation.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — Soon cancer patients on the East End will have less of a drive to seek treatment and supportive care.

Southampton Hospital and local officials broke ground at the site of the future Phillips Family Cancer Center on Saturday.

The Ellen Hermanson Breast Center, a designated Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR), offers a wide range of essential breast health services, including education, early detection screenings and breast cancer treatment and support. Ellen's Well, an initiative established by The Ellen Hermanson Foundation that is administered by the Southampton Hospital Foundation, offers psychosocial support to East End breast cancer survivors and their families, as well as programs that include Neighbors Helping Neighbors, transportation and, Pink Bags. 

The Ellen Hermanson Foundation (www.ellensrun.org) has announced that it will award $260,000 in grants to The Ellen Hermanson Breast Center at Southampton Hospital (www.southamptonhospital.org) and Ellen's Well (www.ellenswell.org). 

"The Ellen Hermanson Breast Center is the 'jewel in the crown' of the Hospital," noted Robert Chaloner, President and CEO of Southampton Hospital. "Our partnership has been a model for how organizations can collaborate to touch and save lives." 

Today Ellen’s Run draws more than 1,000 runners annually, while the Foundation has awarded more than $3.5 million in grants. Most of the focus is on providing patient services in the Hamptons, which has a disproportionately high number of breast cancer cases and, contrary to popular perception, is not just a vacation playground for the wealthy. 

The Ellen Hermanson Foundation is pleased to present Starry Night, a Gala honoring Jennifer Finkelstein, 5 Under 40 Foundation, and the doctors, nurses, and medical staff of The Ellen Hermanson Breast Centerat Southampton Hospital. Join the Foundation on Saturday, July 23rd from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. for a celebratory evening under the stars! This year, the Ellen Hermanson Foundation is toasting to 21 years of changing and saving lives. Starry Night is chaired by Jean Shafiroff with Calvin Klein as the Honorary Chair. 

The Ellen Hermanson Foundation held its “Denim and Diamonds” winter gala and fundraiser at 230 elm in Southampton. This year’s motto was “Give Breast Cancer the Boot,” with a Western-themed evening of food, fun and dancing to themusic of DJ Double S. Volunteers from many of the Hamptons real estate companies donated their time and money to help this worthy cause.

The Ellen Hermanson Foundation is celebrating its 20th anniversary during Veinte!, a salsa party hosted by Steven Klein at his Westkill Farm in Bridgehampton. Taking place on Saturday, June 20th from 6:30 till 10 p.m., the evening will feature the Latin sounds of Tito Puente, Jr. and his 10 piece band, who will dazzle guests as they enjoy a buffet dinner provided by caterer Peter Ambrose and the open bar. 

Since 1996 the Foundation has changed the medical landscape of the East End. Through strategic grants, there is now The Ellen Hermanson Breast Center at Southampton Hospital—the only facility of its kind on the South Fork—and Ellen’s Well, a program providing free psychosocial support to breast cancer survivors and their families. To continue to fund our work, we will sponsor this month’s Summer Solstice honoring Robert Chaloner, president and CEO of Southampton Hospital, and philanthropist Jean Shafiroff as well as the annual Ellen’s Run on Sunday, August 17, at Southampton Hospital.
