PROUDLY HONORING Women of the East End Media

Carissa Katz

The East Hampton Star

Carissa Katz is the Managing Editor of The East Hampton Star and an award-winning community journalist. In her more than two decades at the paper, she has led the newsroom through coverage of such major events as the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and Superstorm Sandy.

The past year has been one of the most challenging but also most important of her career, as she guided The Star's editorial staff through coverage of the Covid-19 pandemic, the racial justice movement, and a contentious election season. She brings a deep love of community and strong sense of ethical responsibility to her work as a writer, editor, and mentor.

An East Hampton native, she now lives across the water on the 2,000-acre Mashomack Preserve on Shelter Island with her husband, Jeremy Samuelson, the preserve director, and their children, who are 10 and 12.
