The Ellen Hermanson Foundation Announces Relaunch of Ellen’s Well in 2026
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
● Signature psycho-social support program newly lead by Mary Alyce Rogers LCSW
East Hampton, NY — The Ellen Hermanson Foundation (TEHF) is excited to announce the return of Ellen’s Well, a partnership-based psycho-social group support and wellness program of the organization. With the retirement of longtime oncological social worker Edyle O’Brien in 2024, TEHF is proud to announce Mary Alyce Rogers, LCSW, as the new Program Director for Ellen’s Well.
Mady Schuman, Executive Director of TEHF said, “Mary Alyce’s well-rounded experience makes her a strong fit to serve our clients. Navigating a potential breast cancer diagnosis and/or living with cancer can be a life-changing experience that no one should have to face alone, and we are excited for the expertise she will bring to Ellen’s Well and to the future of breast cancer mental health and wellness support on the East End.”
Rogers received her MSW from the Columbia University School of Social Work, and is a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW). She has 20+ years of varied clinical experience working in community and private counseling centers. Led by Rogers, each of TEHF’s Community Partners (Bridgehampton Child Care and Recreational Center, OLA, The Retreat and Shinnecock Health Clinic) will have regularly scheduled Ellen’s Well support group sessions, and, additionally, individuals at each organization will be able to participate in sessions facilitated by qualified wellness instructors focusing on stress reduction, emotional resilience, and overall well-being. Holding Ellen’s Well programming at each partner’s home ground will decrease barriers to participation.
Established in 2000, Ellen’s Well addresses the immediate needs and life issues that are created by a diagnosis of, and treatment for, breast and gynecologic cancers. Included in these issues are the anxiety of living with a life-threatening disease, the effect of breast cancer on personal relationships within the family and the workplace, on one’s self-esteem, and on one’s sense of control.
About The Ellen Hermanson Foundation
For over 30 years, The Ellen Hermanson Foundation has transformed the medical landscape of the East End of Long Island, where breast cancer diagnosis and mortality are among the highest in New York State. As a grassroots organization dedicated to providing state-of-the-art breast health care and supporting those affected by cancer, the Foundation achieves its mission through two main initiatives: educational outreach that highlights the importance of early detection and ensures access to mammography and treatment for medically underserved communities, and funding psychosocial support services that address the diverse challenges faced by breast cancer patients, survivors, their families, spouses, and friends. Access to care includes removing barriers to breast health care for the uninsured, underinsured and anyone seeking assistance following a breast cancer diagnosis. No one is turned away from the Ellen Hermanson Breast Center for lack of insurance or inability to pay for treatment.
